The Movies

November 23rd, 2005 by Michelle

Kheri and I have been playing the new simulation game ‘The Movies’, with a view to comparing it to The Sims 2 for Machinima. Part of the ease of making movies with TS2 for us, is that we were pretty much experts on the gameplay, so we’ve been playing ‘The Movies’ as a game to start. Graphically it’s not too bad, but the avatar customisation is disappointing, they’re a little on the unattractive side and have a peculiar, almost comical walk. Without the use of mods or hacks, the movies could all be rather samey, at least with TS2, set building is possible and is almost as limitless as your imagination or the custom content available.

On a plus side, they have some interesting interactions, not prone to over gesturing as with TS2 avatars and I can see a potential for narrative films, drama or comedy. I read that it’s possible to use fraps and your own editor rather than the inbuilt movie game tools, which I hope means we won’t be restricted to using their set camera angles.
