Our Website

March 27th, 2006 by Michelle

I apologise to anyone trying to view our website tonight, it seems our host 818 Hosting has temporarily disabled it due to a “bandwidth surge” that crashed their servers.

Unfortunately they didn’t have the courtesy to inform us when it would be back online. Nevermind the fact that we have paid for this month (paid for UNLIMITED bandwidth.

I realise that you get what you pay for (as long as you don’t expect what you’ve been promised), we’ve dealt with the poor support (allegedly 24 hours a day support), waited up to four days for a reply to emails and problems that have never been fixed. Looks like we’ll be looking for a new host..

I have heard so many horror stories about this company. Decorgal’s site went down in December and she had nothing but issues with them. Anyway, I think people should be warned about them (him) This link might be of interest to you. The second post from the bottom answers a lot of questions. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/thread/463840-1.html
I hope things get straightened out for you soon.

Thanks Artcgrrl for the link, it corroborates some other information I dug up that lists some very dubious practices from this “company”.I suspected from the beginning that it was a one-man show and it has to be said that he provides the worst customer service I’ve encountered anywhere. I’ll be writing a longer blog post and leaving a warning on other forums this week.

I threatened legal action if our site wasn’t restored immediately or in the event he didn’t want my custom, then I expected the account closed and a refund for March, that I got and an email,a sorry excuse of an explanation, which was basically an outright lie. I didn’t even get a chance to retrieve files stored on the server. I guess I should be glad to see the back of 818 Hosting, yesterday was one of many problems with him.

Fortunately we’ve got a new host, BlueHost.com…we had a site up in minutes and the support so far has been wonderful, they answer queries straight away, hopefully no more waiting for days on end for support! I’m working on getting the files uploaded, so hoping to have it all back to normal some time this week :)

I hosted my podcast’s website with BlueHost and have been delighted with them. I, too, was able to get a site up in no time.

They are getting ready to go from 24/6 support to 24/7 too - telephone! - which is hard to find among the “budget” hosts. I’m strongly considering moving z-studios there as well, just to be free of ads and fileplanet.
