‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’

June 7th, 2006 by Michelle

Initially WTWRG  started out as a challenge to see if we could make a short music video on Kheri’s two day break, of course it didn’t work out as planned. It took roughly three weeks to produce, on and off, from set building to the final edit. There are two versions, an unreleased version that features an alternative ghost scene. I asked Trace to preview the movie and we both agreed that the scene didn’t work, the water graphics were glitched. I reshot the scene several times, and I’m still not sure I’m happy with the result. Kheri thought it important to keep a ghost scene, as the lyrics are sung by the dead Elisa Day.

The inspiration for the video, was the  beautifully filmed, original music video, as well as the haunting song. ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’ was taken from the ninth album, ‘Murder Ballads’ (1996) from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Australian singer, Kylie Minogue duets on the song, which Nick Cave wrote with her in mind. It relates the tales of murderer and the victim, Elisa Day, the tension in the song provided by their individual sequence of events that leads up to Elisa’s death.

Kheri truly outdid herself on the river set, it’s appears to have a very convincing looking river and waterfall, that are both animated. The river was made using the swimming pool tool, with recoloured walls and the waterfall is an wall mounted fountain, set on raised terrain. With the sets, I was aiming for something that wouldn’t look out of place in a DH Lawrence story brought to life, but modern day.

Credit has to go to Jovial, for her wonderful bloody skin she created, ceedj for the TS2 Studios hack and thank you to Trace for previewing the final version. Watch the video from here:http://www.britannicadreams.com/musicvideos.html
