First Impressions of C5
I finally got a peek at the new expansion for online MMORPG Lineage 2, Chronicle 5:Oath of Blood, quickly created a a little dwarf on the new Euro server Franz, to level with fellow clanmates from my “home” server, including Kheri. Wow, what a complete disappointment, all the newbie areas are swarming with farmers, though it hardly comes as a surprise. In the midst of one huge clump of farmer dwarves, I spotted BarbraStreisand, unusal, not just for the reason I’ve never associated Babs with being dwarf-ish, but usually their names are an unpronouncable and unreportable-to-G-Ms, string of consonants and vowels. I also spotted a GeorgeBush dwarf.
Shortly after, we were reduced to fighting over and I mean literally fighting over, an orc and a couple of meagre wolves, in an attempt to level. A couple of dwarves run up to us, the girl dwarf starts beating on me with a club.
Girl Dwarf: It’s bot.
Me: Piss off
(I’m not prone to being polite when being bashed on while in combat)
Boy Dwarf: Yep that’s a bot.
Me: Would a bot tell you to “piss off”?
Boy Dwarf: U 3 all hit at the same time you’re bots
Clanmate: We’re not bots, do bots all talk at the same time?
Boy Dwarf: Now you’re just copying text into the chat of your other 2 accounts.
Me: That’s clever seeing as we’re on two different continents
Girl Dwarf: You attacked me when I hit on you, you’re botting.
Me:Ummm..you hit on me while I’m fighting a mob, you expect me to let you kill me??
Boy Dwarf: Damn Korean farmers.
Me: I’m in England actually.
Boy Dwarf: Damn English Farmers.
I refuse to spend real life currency on virtual currency, as anyone who has seen my warrior in her mismatched pieces of armour will tell you, something about the whole Ebay/farmer thing just feels like it would be game over for me. I have to wonder if all MMORPG communities are as diabolical as L2. Number two son has persuaded me to install WoW on my PC and I’m going to find out later…
